The New Testament (NT) was written in Greek. We do not possess the original autographs. However, we have thousands of portions of the NT dating from within ca. 50 years of its writing, and complete NT’s from about the 4th Century.
The early texts and manuscripts were written in upper case (capital) letters with no spaces after sentences, and no spaces even between words. They are a continuous stream of letters. So one reads them by discerning where the words begin and end.
As copying developed, spaces between sentences and words were used to make for easier reading. Still later chapter numbers (about 1000 A.D.) and verse numbers (about 1500 A.D.) were added. Also added were headings for paragraph sections (called pericopes) to aid comprehension, though such headings are not the inspired text of the original. Also added, about 1600 A.D., were aspects familiar to us such as guided commentary (aka study Bibles), verse cross-references, double-column formats, larger (and smaller) font sizes and various font types, all to aid readability and comprehension.
In a like vein, the below text, as elsewhere on this site, has been re-formatted to help a reader understand more easily, deeply, and accurately, the underlying inerrant, infallible Biblical text.
Another ‘triple’ repetition occurs in vs. 7 and 8 below: the word “loss.”
