Grudem Chapter 7: What Is Man?
Consideration of “man” requires us to consider what the Bible claims about him, rather than any contemporary claim, such as a randomly evolved species (evolution) or some kind of ‘god’ (certain Eastern religious views, and in many ways our natural view of ourselves).
Further, when we examine the Bible’s teaching we must account for the complexity of two “man” categories, namely: “man” as he was created by God and placed in Eden, and “man” as he self-‘created’ (in a certain sense) his fallen condition. In Romans 5 of the New Testament we see further into the complexity of “man” in that we (new Creations in Christ) have two fathers: Adam and Christ (the Second Adam).
