Pastor is the English word for shepherd. Here is a Wikipedia definition:
The word “pastor” derives from the Latin noun pastor which means “shepherd” and relates to the Latin verb pascere – “to lead to pasture, set to grazing, cause to eat”.
The Gr. root word for “shepherd” is poinmain. The root word appears 40 times in the NT as shown below.
These reference clearly point to The Lord Jesus Christ as the Shepherd of His Sheep, which is consistent with His own claim that He will build His church (Matt. 16:18). The one verse that some use to support the idea of a human “pastor” is Eph. 4:11 where “pastor” (poinmain) is linked with (by Gr. kai) “teacher,” distinctly different from the format for the earlier list in Eph. 4. (The Gr. kai can mean “and” in the sense of “plus” [such as bread and butter] but it is often used as a pointing word, that can be translated as “even” which carries the idea “in the sense that”).
